In these courses, you will learn how investigators and detectives study a criminal’s behavior and apply it to crime analysis. Tactical analysts focus only on immediate crime problems and strategic analysts look at long-term problems. Although these two analysts focus on different things, both types require an understanding of modus operandi.
This class will not only teach you what the definition of modus operandi is, but will also show you how crime analysts use criminal behavior to help them identify crimes committed by the same offender. By understanding modus operandi and being able to get inside a criminal’s head, analysts are able to determine if specific incidents are linked together.
You will also be provided with a brief overview on the relationships among the court system, law enforcement and corrections. Understanding how and why these three separate entities interact when working on a case is crucial.
This course will help students sharpen their ability to define modus operandi and explain its relationship to crime analysis. Students will also be able to explain how criminal behavior is analyzed in crime analysis as well as be able to differentiate the relationship between the court system, law enforcement and corrections.
