Associate in Education Courses

The associate degree in education for educational paraprofessionals was created specifically for students interested in assisting teachers in preschool through high school classrooms. Course topics include child development, educational and learning theories, teaching strategies in math, reading and writing and classroom and behavioral management. Special Education and English as A Second Language will also be discussed in class. Graduates of this program will fulfill the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 and earn their associate’s degree. This program is perfect for those interested in working with children or who are trying to get started on earning their teaching credentials.

Program Objectives

  • Upon completion of this program, students will be able to communicate effectively and critically reflect on the issues discussed. They will be required to problem solve logically and apply these skills to achieve their goals. They will also be asked to use such skills to recognize and critically evaluate the impact of diversity on individual and group behavior.
  • Graduates will be able to demonstrate sound ethical reasoning and judgment skills through analysis and debate of significant ethical issues, by explaining, defending and assessing personal ethical perspectives.
  • Students will be able to evaluate human experience as expressed through literary, artistic, religious, philosophical or other cultural achievements. Students will also gain an understanding of the social or psychological issues that impact human behavior.
  • Graduates will learn how to apply scientific methods of inquiry in order to arrive at decisions through reason, and to solve everyday problems. Graduates will also be able to reflect critically on the impact of historical and contemporary events on society and be prepared to complete a student-selected, focused sequence of electives.
