This is an introductory course to the Microsoft Windows system administration and prepares students with the skills needed to install, configure and manage a network operating system. Students perform basic administrative tasks such as file and printer configuration, user authentication and resource access, and service installation and security monitoring. They will also practice troubleshooting server and network problems.
Installation is the first step in implementing a Windows Server 2003 machine. There are four main 'platforms' of the Windows server operating system. Each one plays a specific role in a network environment. Before installing the program, it is important to know if the hardware being used matches the minimum specifications -- including being able to respond to prompts and file systems.
In order to administer Windows Server machines, students need to understand the functionality of the various management and configuration tools available. The class will be looking at five main areas of administration: managing physical and logical devices, managing users, computers and groups, managing and maintain access to resources, managing and maintaining a server environment, and managing and implementing disaster recovery.
Account management is an important task for a Windows Server administrator and it is important to understand the purpose of each type of account and the various tools available to create and maintain these accounts.
